Dr. Masters is a graduate of Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, and Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania. He completed his internship at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Oakland, California, and his dermatology residency at the Naval Regional Medical Center in San Diego, California. He served as the Chief of Dermatology at the Naval Submarine Medical Center in Groton, Connecticut.

Dr. Masters is certified by the American Board of Dermatology , the American Board of Laser Surgery , and the National Board of Medical Examiners . He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, and the American Society of Cosmetic Dermatology & Aesthetic Surgery. He is a member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, the American College of Phlebology, the North Carolina Dermatology Association, the North Carolina Medical Society, the Haywood County Medical Society, and the Christian Medical and Dental Associations.

Dr. Masters' parents were from the mountains of western North Carolina. As he was growing up, he spent many summers here visiting family and fell in love with the area. When his service with the Navy was completed in 1983, he moved here to the mountains to start the first full-time dermatology practice west of Asheville.

In addition to his particular interest, expertise, and experience in treating skin cancers, moles, and atypical lesions, Dr. Masters also provides many cutting-edge cosmetic dermatologic procedures.

It is well known that Dr. Masters is a strong supporter of the 2nd amendment. He also has an extensive collection of historical autographs, attends Grace Community Church in Mills River, and much to his consternation considering he has owned dogs all his life, now waits on a certain well known cat..........
